By looking at market trends, business players could capture signals to prepare them to adjust to the market. Say that you’re a travel agency and you can get a forecast and insight on the travel industry freely, wouldn’t you be happy? You can adjust your product offerings and suit it to the market demand. Since in businesses “Customers Are King”, listening to market demand is a #1 priority!

I was quite surprised that JWT Intelligence offered the report for free. I was curious to know whether this is a marketing strategy to cut off several key information so that people would get a glimpse and would be more willing to spend money. It was a very pleasant surprise when knowing that it is not a lie!

I tried downloading one of the trend report, which is the Travel: Changing Course trend report. As a self-proclaimed travel enthusiast, I was also excited to read the trend report. Satisfied was I when I see the content of the report. It was not boring, it was well-presented, it was visually appealing, and it was really informative.

They present statistics, observations, and analysis of companies in a very informative manner that an amateur like me could even enjoy reading the report trend! It was also a useful insight for those who have a business in the travel industry, since they’ll know what to expect and what to prepare for the upcoming shift.

How Mismatched Title and URL Address affects Reader’s Perception.

In my Creativity & Innovation class, I am asked to write a review on lots of blogs. One of the blog is at http://www.toprankblog.com. As I copy the URL address to my web browser, I was guessing that the blog will be a blog listing top-notch design blogs (since it was a Creativity & Innovation class). If not, I was expecting blogs that are most viewed in the history of the internet. So, what did I find?

Online Marketing Blog?? I was a bit confused at first, since I didn’t remember opening any marketing-related blog amidst all those tabs I opened. Additionally, “Online Marketing Blog” doesn’t sound convincing enough for me, andif you dare so to put a “marketing blog” in your page title, you should’ve been cleverer in making your URL address memorable and relevant.

In addition to the irrelevant page title and URL address, I was confused what this site is actually offering. In the tabs, you can see “Optimize”, “SEO”, and “Social Media”. Only after linking those three sites do I realize that this is a blog for online-marketing, not an online marketing-blog. Ha!

After having that aha moment, I scrolled down through articles being posted in the blog. It explains (you guessed it) articles and tips on how to optimize and succeed in online marketing. The articles were written by different people.

Content-wise, the site is okay, since it is all tips that can be directly applicable by marketers. Design-wise, meh. I might be more interested in the articles should the images be more alluring and relevant. Relevancy-wise (does such word exist?), MEH. The site became unclear – the title and the url address and the images seem to be out of place and irrelevant one to another. People needed to carefully look at the content first before being able to correctly figure that it is an online-marketing blog.

2011 Ideas: were they attainable?

2011 seems..so distant. It was 2 years ago. It might not be that old, actually, but in this ever-changing business and technology environment, 2 years are indeed distant. In fact, ideas that were cool a day ago can be dull the next day! This blog lists down 45 Business Ideas They Loved in 2011.

Since ideas are not all attainable, here is my personal opinion and view regarding the ideas that could/should/has already been applied in real life – and those who should/could not been applied:

SHOULDS!

  1. Personal Social Media Consultant
    Social Media is everything right now. Digital Marketing seems like a sexy business nowadays, with people and business players getting all crazy with the social media frenzy. Social Media is a fine way to market/promote your product, since it can engage a two-side discussion, cheap, can create a viral marketing, guerrilla marketing, and can drive people’s opinion through word-of-mouth. Ever since the rise of the social media, companies are starting to do branding through this social media.
    People, just like products, must also brand themselves; Arya Wiguna-Demi Tuhan, Raditya Dika and his silly, laughable trait, Nadine Chandrawinata and Nadya Hutagalung and eco-friendliness. A personal social media consultant can help people in branding themselves, be it for a job-seeking candidates, celebrity-wannabes, or people who just want many attention. Digital marketing consultants for companies now exist, so, why shouldn’t a personal social media consultant?
  2. Tablet App Development
    This falls not under the shoulds, but more like the duh-s. Nowadays, who doesn’t keep updated with the latest tablet/smartphones? Apps for tablets and smartphones are now no longer alien and hi-tech for people. With the rapid development and competition for the industry, app development (in a wider context, not only tablets) is a must.
  3. Energy Efficiency Consultant
    I am really enthusiastic in being energy-efficient. I want my house to be eco-friendly/green, wanting solar panel, biopore, rainwater filtration, green roof, etc, etc. However, my background in Management does not come with effective energy efficient planning. Every time I read articles about green technology, I am startled by all the facts and valuation I read – they all seem new every time. Thus, should there be an Energy Efficiency Consultant, I would want to hire them.
  4. E-Commerce Warehouse/Shipping
    E-Commerce is also growing very rapidly, with more and more sites and stores opening up e-commerce. From a friend of mine who is starting up a similar business, the strongest advice he always said was “always, always plan detailed operations and supply chain management.” Warehousing and shipping could be a very tricky part in the industry, remembering that thousands of products are being sent to thousands of customers in hundreds of cities!

SHOULD NOT!

  1. Memory Organizer
    Really? The detailed description in the site is that this idea organizes “memories” stored in cameras, video recorders, phones, laptops, etc. I oppose this idea because, well, it could be handy, but it would be not so significant. Best attempt on creating integrated cross-device organizer are with synchronized account.
  2. Affordable Computer Maintenance
    I do not know how computer maintenance is like in more developed countries, but I see that affordable computer maintenance is abundant in Indonesia. Be it hardware or software, people can fix it in a relatively easy way. I oppose this idea because, well, it is already available.

There are 40 others ideas which I find a bit boring since the idea is not that unique nor innovative. Kudos to the writers, though!

 

Cahya Entering the Fashion Zone.

I am never, never a fashionable girl. Well, I wear what looks good and comfortable on me but I rarely buy things that are “happening” or being the talk-of-the-town. When I watch fashion shows on TV, most of the times I comment things like these: Why are they so skinny? Why do they look so pale? Why are they wearing those weird clothes? Does that kind of clothes actually wearable in normal days? Who on earth would buy that alien clothing?

So, don’t go asking Cahya what’s the trend now in the fashion world.

Occasionally, when I read fashion/girl magazines, I noticed that the “fashion trend” is always the same. The latest fashion trend I read was the peplum style (I don’t know how long I’ve missed trends, seriously. Pardon me for that). In that period, every magazine seems to have the mix & match article featuring peplum tops. I thought to myself, how can these magazines now what’s going to be trending? Is the “fashion trend” a lie made by secret designers cult in order to make their new collection successful in the market?

When I opened this site, I know the answer. Yes, it is partially fabricated and at the same time responding to the market demand.

Trendstop.com is a site and trend consultancy agency based in London that gives out analysis and projection of fashion and lifestyle trend. It works based on the trend seen on fashion shows and who’s-wearing-what and amplifies that trend to other influencers or early adopters. It then sells out these analysis to companies or clients in order to give clear understanding on where the fashion trend is going to shift in the future.

As a fashion-trendiness-less girl, I was thinking that this might be the answer to my illiteracy to fashion. Reports like these might inform me on the next big thing in the fashion world. The idea is very useful, especially when you’re a fashion store owner or a celebrity.

Seeing that in order to access the reports one must be a member, all I can do is to understand how it works and what it is used for. After the site knows which style is going to be in trend in the coming period, the staffs who have a vast connection to influencers in fashion and early adopters tell them to amplify the trend. Additionally, it has a mobile app that can be used by members to see updates on fashion trends. Trendstop.com also has connection with global network, thus the updates would not be local, but global. The client for Trendstop.com is not only small-medium companies, but also giants like L’Oreal and Hugo Boss. Wow!

TSNow seeing that I won’t understand much, I’ll have to say other things: I love the site design! It looks so edgy and convincing, with splashes of bright colors here and there!

I am now allured to sign up as a member and see whether reading the reports would make me a more fashion-savvy girl. Should I?

 

Designs, Designs, Designs

Happy are those who are constantly visually pleased. That’s why good designs exist. This site jolts down not one, not two, but eighty design blogs that can help people propel their design-savvy mind.

At first, I was skeptical. The pink lady in the top left corner with bad typography of the logo (and seemingly lo-res as well) is just very annoying that I doubt this website could give trusted design blogs. Since I’ve seen lots of design blogs, I was also skeptical because it usually contains a plethora of images that show creative packaging and creative ads that are often repeatedly shown in several different sites.

I skimmed through the post and all I can think of in the beginning was “why would people show header images and links only without further explanation of the difference between one site and another?” I hated it. I hated the fact that the post doesn’t elaborate how a specific site could help enhance creativity. What is the uniqueness of the site?

When I was about to close, I scrolled up again and saw this one text “Logos & Typography”. I LOVE TYPOGRAPHY! Hence, I stopped scrolling randomly and clicked on the most convincing site seen through its header image: Logo Design Love.

It was full of good discussion on logos and how logos can be really powerful in branding. Additionally, its design is so simplistic and easy on the eyes! I browsed through several article titles and in fact, I am interested by many articles there. Satisfied by Logo Design Love, I continue clicking on other sites that fall under the logos & typography category.

Second encounter was ilovetypography. As a typography enthusiast, my hopes are set high yet I forced my expectations to be low as I was already too skeptical with people who claim to have good design yet still put annoying colors and bad typeface.

Was I satisfied? Very much.

Again, the site design was so simple that the fonts and all typography the site wants to highlight becomes more seen and more awe-inspiring. It has this tab titled “Font Game” that I was so excited to download it on my smartphone.

Now enough with the typography and proceeding to the creativeopera site. I see that the site divided the design blogs into several categories, which are:

Personally, I am interested in the Freebies (duh, who doesn’t?) and typography. So, my initial judgment was incorrect, since I didn’t really browse through the sites. After site-walking, I found the post useful!

KEPOMPONG GENDUT!

Pernah dengar film cin(T)a? Atau yang lebih baru, Demi Ucok?

Dua film Indonesia tersebut mungkin tidak sesanter Laskar Pelangi atau Soegidja, karena memang dua film tersebut adalah film indie. Di kalangan anak muda dan penikmat film indie, kedua film tersebut cukup sering dibicarakan. Bagi saya pribadi, ketika SMA dulu, film cin(T)a sangat hip! Tema yang diusung merupakan tema yang kontroversial dan kurang digarap ketika itu – kisah cinta berbeda agama dan suku. Berada di lingkungan yang sangat beragam, saya dan teman-teman sangat menunggu film tersebut.

Begitu juga dengan Demi Ucok. Walaupun saya melihat posternya di Kineruku, saya tidak terlalu tahu film tersebut. Namun, kata teman saya yang memang penggarap film dan tahu berita-berita terbaru film indie, Demi Ucok cukup hits. Film yang bernada kocak ini mengusung tema seorang Ibu yang mencarikan jodoh untuk anaknya. Film ini juga tetap kental dengan suku. Jika yang menarik dalam film cin(T)a adalah tema kontroversialnya, lain halnya dengan Demi Ucok. Yang menarik dalam film ini adalah cara produksinya, dimana pendanaan film didanai secara umum atau crowdfunding. Dengan melakukan pitching dan promosi ke kerabat-kerabat serta khalayak ramai, film ini didanai dengan banyak orang.

Nah, kedua film diatas memiliki benang merah lain, yaitu keduanya berasal dari rumah produksi Kepompong Gendut. Saya tidak pernah mendengar nama tersebut, tapi saya tahu film-film diatas.

Pada salah satu kelas saya, Creativity and Innovation, saya mengikuti field trip ke rumah produksi tersebut. Di bayangan saya, rumah produksi ini pasti memiliki banyak ruangan – satu untuk storyboarding, satu untuk editing, screening, apalah, apalah. Saya cukup terkejut ketika tempat yang kami tuju merupakan suatu rumah biasa, bukan gedung ataupun kantor luas. Kagetnya lagi adalah ruang-ruang dalam rumah produksi tersebut dapat dibilang sedikit. Hanya ada sekitar tiga. Dan lebih kagetnya lagi, ternyata staf permanen yang ada dalam Kepompong Gendut hanya berjumlah (kalau tidak salah ingat) lima orang.

Kami disambut oleh Sammaria Simanjuntak, pemilik Kepompong Gendut, serta sutradara dari film-film yang ada. Beliau menceritakan pengalaman-pengalaman menariknya: cin(T)a yang premiere-nya di London ternyata tidak direncanakan dan datang tiba-tiba; pemeran Ibu dalam Demi Ucok adalah ibunya sendiri; Kepompong Gendut sedang membuat film TV untuk Kompas TV yang berdasar kisah nyata dan pemainnya pun keluarga; bahwa ternyata yang bikin iklan Google Indonesia adalah Kepompong Gendut.

Sangat menarik mendengar cerita dan penjelasan dari beliau, karena saya juga senang dengan videografi dan film. Saya sangat menyukai cerita-cerita dan insight yang diberikan oleh beliau, terlebih lagi ia masih muda dan bercerita secara santai, bukan terkesan menggurui.

Setelah kami mengobrol dan berdiskusi sedikit, kami diajak keliling “kantor”, dimana kami melihat ruang kerja mereka dan juga ruang Audio Visual. Ruang kerjanya sangat santai dan nyaman.

Hal-hal yang saya ingat, senangi, dan pelajari dari Field Trip ini adalah:

  1. Networking itu ngga penting. Begitu kata Sammaria Simanjuntak. Saat film cin(T)a premiere di London, itu bukan karena ia kenalannya siapa yang merupakan kenalannya seseorang penting, namun tiba-tiba saja mendapatkan tawaran tersebut. Yang menurut saya menarik disini adalah kalimat ini melawan ide-ide yang hampir selalu didoktrinkan (dan dirasakan) kepada mahasiswa bisnis: Networking is Number One. You can’t survive if you don’t know anyone.
    Memang betul, tapi yang saya simpulkan dan pelajari dari Sammaria Simanjuntak adalah networking bukan berarti segalanya. Kenal seseorang belum tentu menjamin kesuksesan, dan jangan mengandalkan orang lain.
  2. Start small! Awalnya ia hanya iseng-iseng suka bikin film. Sammaria yang dulunya adalah alumni Arsitektur, keluar dari kerjanya dan “iseng-iseng” bikin film, dimana pemerannya seringkali kerabat dekatnya. Yang saya simpulkan adalah tidak perlu takut jika ingin melakukan sesuatu, yang penting: mulai.
  3. Do what you love, love what you do. Perhaps the expression is overused, tapi menurut saya idiom tersebut sangat menggambarkan Kepompong Gendut. Mereka melakukan apa yang mereka senangi – videografi. Mereka melakukannya dengan senang hati dan bahagia – atmosfir homy dan menyenangkan.
  4. Think creatively! Di Indonesia, crowdfunding/crowdsourcing mungkin belum terlalu booming, namun film Demi Ucok membuktikan bahwa Indonesia pun bisa melakukan crowdfunding. Dengan sistem dan proses yang unik ini, Demi Ucok mampu tembus ke bioskop dan menghibur penonton. Jangan terpaku bahwa film harus serba gede-gedean dan serba artis terkenal.

Kedepannya, Kepompong Gendut sedang membuat beberapa proyek, salah satunya adalah sebuah film layar lebar bergenre science-fiction tentang rahasia sejarah Indonesia. Proyek lainnya adalah Serial TV yang berlatar belakang dari kisah nyata kerabat dekat Sammaria.

Brightspot Market Feb 2013: Review

Today’s hip youth event varies – from music concerts to club parties to one as quirky as gardening. Curated market is definitely one entry who tops the list of youth events.

“Curated market” – the phrase used for a bazaar of local youth fashion line, foods, and sometimes other goods – has been in the trend for some time now. Example to that are Brighspot Market, Trademark, Pop Up Market, and Lookats Market. These events are often hip, attended by thousands, and (of course) talked about in the social media sites – tweeted, instagramed, path-ed, et cetera.

The last curated market I visited was Brighspot Market. It was held on February 14-17 2013 in Grand Indonesia. Like other “market”s, it started with an opening night exclusive for invited guests, followed by public visit and ended with an after party.

I am not really a frequent visitor of curated market, just occasional visitor when my friends who have the same taste with me recommend it or there is an obligation for me to do so (in this case, a task). Thus, I went to Brightspot Market in Grand Indonesia after a day out with my family. I came on February 16, at Saturday. The traffic was hell.

I just realized that it’s a Saturday night when I have already near the mall. I didn’t expect the traffic to be that bad, I even had to walk from Kebon Kacang to Grand Indonesia! It was so crowded that cars are stuck, not moving at all. Upon arriving at the venue of the market, I was stunned. I was stunned not because of the overflowing creativity, nor unique products, nor good decoration. I was stunned because it was very crowded.

The crowd was not the type of crowd who attracts you to find out what the fuss is all about, nor the type of crowd that is pleasing, but more like a crowd that drives people away. The alleyways between one booth and others are a bit wee, thus adding more overcrowding effect to the already crowded crowd. I heard from my friends that Brightspot is one of the pioneers of “curated market”, and tenants who are able to enter Brightspot are those who are truly creative and different from others. Thus, upon entering, my expectations were high.

Sadly enough, the expectations were not met. I cannot even clearly see a product due to the crowd of people. When I finally got closer look to the products being offered, for me personally, the products being sold in Brightspot are more or less similar to those sold at other curated markets. What’s more disappointing is that one tenant and another are not that different. Although the product range varies (there were lomo cams, handmade bags, until common sheer blouse for women), I didn’t  see any significant difference. Should I be coming to Brightspot to shop, I don’t even look at the brand, because all of the products being offered are similar.

In relation to Creativity & Innovation, I think that Brightspot Market is a creative event seeing that it is one of the earliest “curated market”s. It sees the large opportunity offered by teenagers-young adults who love to socialize and at the same time be unique (shown by their unique fashion identity), thus creating a market combining hip stores in one place. However, as this becomes repetitive (each “curated market” brings more or less the same idea), the execution does not seem that creative anymore. It seems like the management is just running a periodical event and not creating something innovative or creative.

Moreover, I find the things being offered in Brightspot not that unique. Yes, I wouldn’t argue that they are not cute or cool, but I could find it in other curated markets. It is just like a competition with little differentiation. My last visit to a curated market before Brightspot was Pop Up Market, and the things offered are same. The marketing or promotional method, layouts, and others are the same. I don’t find the idea unique or innovative anymore.

Brightspot might does not work on me because I am not the type of people or market they are targeting. Generally, these kind of markets are perceived unique and offered products that are not easily found anywhere else, but my value and motivation to buy such products are not as high.

Concluding, I found Brightspot Market too crowded and was not so enjoyable in finding goods, and the idea of the event is being repeated and copied by other competitors that it is not anymore exciting for me. However, arguments may exist since I am not the market they are targeting.

Teaching Methods & Creativity

One of the most trending topics in the media – both social and printed – in Indonesia is the change of curriculum students will undergo starting in the academic year 2013/2014. Many have criticized the change of curriculum, saying that the curriculum will make students think less critically and don’t have an in-depth understanding of the lessons taught. I am also the one criticizing the change. I think the change was unnecessary, for the syllabus of the lessons being taught isn’t that faulty. Here is my complete critic for the curriculum change.

I think that Indonesia’s education shift should be focusing more on how the teaching is conducted, not the content itself. Changing the content, no matter in what way, without changing the method of teaching will not be as significant as changing the method. I agree on methods where students are being catered personally based on their own talent and interest. I agree on methods that encourage students to think critically, not to memorize formulae. I agree on methods where students are able to express themselves, their interests through their tasks, not answering in such rigid, textbook-based manner. I agree on creative teaching methods.

Reading this article, I couldn’t help but relate the content with the buzz of curriculum changes. There’s nothing I want more than give articles like this – those supporting creative teaching methods – to the Ministry of Education to underline the importance of teaching methods.

People who oppose the idea of having a creativity enhancing method often based the argument on the left brain being the major contributor to logical thinking, hence heavily related to one’s intellect. However I would like to cite my Creativity and Innovation lecturer who once said it is the balance between left and right brain that produces the most outstanding idea. It is the ability to think outside the box yet being able to produce a sequence or standard of procedures that will bear the best innovations.

Enhancing creativity thus becomes an important thing to do in early age as this will develop their thinking for later stages of life.

The article shared above raises four points on how to enhance creativity in school children. Below are the points and my opinion regarding the points:

  1. Word Games

    The author argues that word games can help “students build on existing concepts, knowledge and ideas”. The word games proposed by the author are those of connecting one word to other related words or guessing a word in a cluster.

    I say this is a good proposal. As someone who loves word games in her early ages (and still do), I find word games interesting since I am subconsciously trained to relate one things to other in a quicker pace. This trains the brain to think quicker.

  2. Visual Thinking Games

    Visual thinking game proposed by the author in the article is to have the children guess or give their perspective on an abstract drawing. This is a great idea. What is creativity but seeing things from different perspectives and judgments?

    This is a direct, practical way to train that mindset.

  3. Drawing Games

    Creativity is often related to art – hence visual thinking games would naturally appear on the list. Perhaps by making a guessing game to a peer, a child would find a way to conceal his drawing the best way possible, thus making the opponent harder to guess. Finding a unique way to conceal drawing would then enhance creativity.

  4. Teaching Tips

    This section I love the most. As I’ve risen before in the first paragraphs, teaching method is often the crucial part of education. “Asking certain types of questions”, “pick their own topics for presentation”, “group collaboration” are good examples on how students can express themselves and will graduate as one unique, intellect human being in contrast with the fabricated, theoretical-based robots a one-direction learning would produce.

In general, I love the points raised by the author and I also agree on the point that creativity should be enhanced and catered since early ages as it will perfect their way of thinking.

I hope the Ministry of Education get excited at this the way I do.

27 Februari silam, saya kembali lagi ke Teater Tertutup Dago Tea House untuk kembali menonton teater; atau kalau menurut MC kemarin, mengembalikan Dago Tea House ke tujuan utamanya – menyajikan teater.

Taraksa adalah teater kelima yang dibawa oleh Teater Epik, sebuah wadah untuk penggiat seni teater yang terdiri dari mahasiswa dan siswa sekolah yang ada di Bandung (ITB, UNPAR, ITENAS, UNISBA, UNPAD, UPI, IT Telkom, SMAN 1, SMAN 15, SMAN 19). Pertemuan saya dengan Epik pertama kali adalah melalui Majalah Epik dan Teater Epik Vol. 1 yang kala itu ditampilkan pada Auditorium SBM ITB. Kalau tidak salah pada tahun pertama kuliah, antara 2010/2011. Saya pribadi senang dengan majalah Epik.

Epik diprakarsai oleh senior-senior saya di SBM yang menurut saya, berani “nyeleneh”. Salah satunya adalah Sutansyah Marahakim, yang menjadi sutradara pada pementasan Taraksa ini. Awalnya, saya membaca cerita Taraksa dari blog Sutan. Makanya, perjalanan saya naik taksi dari Pasteur (baru sampai dari Jakarta) pukul 18.55 (padahal show jam 19.00 dan katanya akan ditutup 5 menit setelahnya) cukup deg-degan. Takutnya malah ditutup dan tidak bisa nonton.

Sekelebat lihat, isinya adalah anak-anak remaja, walau ada beberapa keluarga dan dosen saya. Setelah dicermati lagi, ternyata ada orang-orang dengan face painting dan kostum ala Indian. Awalnya saya pikir mereka semacam “pager ayu pager bagus”. Tapi ternyata mereka lebih dari itu! Ada seseorang yang menurut saya seperti burung dengan gerakan-gerakan aneh dan berjalan menggunakan tangan dan kaki. Ada yang menjadi seperti nenek-nenek gila dan berjalan mendekati orang-orang. Bahkan ada anak kecil yang dikejar-kejarnya! Yang lucu adalah tiba-tiba ia mendatangi saya dan meminta (tetap dengan perannya, tentu) untuk memasangkan penitinya yang copot. Haha.

Menariknya lagi, berbeda dengan pementasan-pementasan sebelumnya, ada merchandise booth. Dan merchandise yang dijual disini bukan pin atau kaos berlogo Taraksa atau sejenisnya, melainkan kalung-kalung etnik, gelas, tas, boneka, bahkan ada lukisan. Sayangnya, saya tidak sempat melihat karena booth penuh sesak. Ada juga beberapa booth makanan dan barang-barang IBE.

Pertunjukan dimulai sekitar jam 19.30. Yang saya rasakan ketika itu adalah rasa penasaran akan properti scene 1. Pada pertunjukan sebelumnya, Mendiang Republik, properti dan visualisasi scene 1-nya juara. Pada awal pertunjukan, MC menyebutkan bahwa pertunjukan kali ini bukan hanya akan menonjolkan visual namun juga integrasi antara auditori, visualisasi, dan cerita yang ada di situs Majalah Epik.

Creative Something….not

This week, my creative brain is met by yet another website. I was expecting something new from the previous websites – well after all, they are meant to be creative, don’t they?

First website was a site with creative products – mostly packaging and ad, second was 2012 trend predictions, and third was – my favorite! – a wonderful website called Eclectic Curiosity filled with texts, images, curations, videos, and presented in a very nice way with alliteration here and there. This third website, Creative Something, is yet another website to stimulate and enhance creativity.

At a first glance, I was quite disappointed. The interface is not visually appealing and the colors used are also well, quite boring. I tried not to judge a site by its homepage and keep reading a few articles. My rule of good narrative is that I keep reading them after fifth paragraph. I didn’t. The narrative was not presented in such a way that I want to keep reading or get my curious senses tingling.

As a typographic critic, I was also disappointed at the choice of fonts. It was a usual wordpress-ish font. I demand something different if you put up some “creative” label in your blog. (Talking about demanding girl…)

The background image! As you scroll down, the chalkboard-ish header disappears, leaving you with a boring gray. It was not so good for the eyes, remembering that you are mixing it with a dash of white.

I also find the site navigation not quite user-friendly. I clicked the Random tab (and stumbled upon the same presentation of narrative) once. I want to get back to the homepage, and I couldn’t find my way back. I don’t know whether it is my limited ambition to find positivity in this site or they truly didn’t make a home button, but I was, again, disappointed.

If I have to give advice on how this site could be bettered, I truly think it lies on the visual appeal in the narratives presentation. I stumbled upon the “Four ways to encourage a creative workplace” article, I read it, and it’s actually helpful! But for an article like that, don’t people demand pictures? Or perhaps a friendlier, more colloquial way of preaching the people?
